Inspired by a Best Friend, Designed for Every Dog

At Annie Oakley, we believe dog toys should be made with the same care we give the dogs themselves.

Skin & Bone was created with a simple goal: to design a toy that’s safer, more natural, and built for how dogs actually play. The inspiration behind it comes from a dog who embodied all of that and more.

The Story of Annie Oakley

Annie Oakley wasn’t just a pet. She was family.

A high-energy yellow lab with a lightning bolt-shaped tail and an instinct for the outdoors, Annie Oakley lived for chasing birds, retrieving, and making friends wherever she went. She had a deep love for play especially with her favorite toy, a traditional plastic bumper.

That toy captured her attention because of its shape and movement. But like many dog toys, it was made from hard plastics, synthetic materials, and artificial scents, not something designed with long-term safety in mind.

Losing Annie Oakley far too soon was devastating. But it also made one thing clear:

There needed to be a better option.

The Creation of the Skin & Bone

Skin & Bone was designed to take what dogs naturally love and build it the right way.

Inspired by Annie’s favorite bumper, we created a bird-shaped toy that taps into instinctive behaviors like chasing, grabbing, and retrieving without relying on synthetic materials.

Instead, we chose durable hemp and reinforced canvas:

Stronger and longer-lasting than traditional cotton.

Naturally resistant to mold and bacteria.

Free from unnecessary dyes and synthetic fillers.

Fibers that are less likely to compact if small strands are ingested

Every detail is intentional:

The rope “head” creates movement and grip.

The body encourages shake and carry.

The replaceable canvas shell extends the life of the toy.

It’s built for real play and not disposable use.

Annie Oakley’s Legacy

Every Skin & Bone toy carries Annie’s spirit. Her energy, her instinct, and her love for the outdoors.

Our logo, featuring her signature lightning bolt tail, is a reminder of the dog who inspired it all and the standard we continue to build toward.

At Annie Oakley, we’re committed to creating products that are:

Safer by design

Built to last

Better for your dog and the environment

Because dogs aren’t just pets. They’re family.

And they deserve better.
